Iqbal Day (Youm-e-Iqbal) is on 9 November. It is the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot. People call him Shair-e-Mashriq (Poet of the East). In his 1930 address at the Muslim League session in Allahabad, he spoke of a separate Muslim homeland in north-west India. Many see this as the first clear idea of Pakistan. In India, people know him well for Saare Jahan Se Achha, which he wrote in 1904.
